What does a ripe, fresh and most healthy persimmon look like?

Persimmon came to us from Japan and China. It is cultivated in different countries, but most of all in Asia. There are more than 2000 varieties of the crop. The most common varieties on sale are:

Eastern.

It is worth choosing fruits taking into account the variety. They should be a uniform color. If the color closer to the leaves is light, whitish or greenish, then these are unripe fruits, they will obviously be tart. It is also necessary to avoid overripe specimens that show signs of rotting.

Interesting!

Persimmon is valuable not only for its fruits, which from a botanical point of view are considered berries. The tree's wood is used to make furniture, sports equipment and even musical instruments.

Benefits and harms

The benefits of persimmon for the human body are very difficult to overestimate. It is enough to dwell on its main components to get a complete picture:

  • Vitamin A is essential for eye health. It helps not only prevent problems with the organs of vision, but also cure cataracts, “yellow” spots, and glaucoma. In addition, it strengthens the vessels of the mucous membranes, promotes the healing of the genitourinary, gastrointestinal and respiratory systems. This vitamin is very important for blood composition. Thanks to it, lymphocytes are renewed, which in turn protect a person from most infections coming from outside. And recently, scientists have found that, largely due to vitamin A, it is possible to prevent the development of cancer cells;

Fact The more saturated the color of a persimmon, the more vitamin A the fruit contains.

  • Vitamin K is very important for bones and joints. The quality and speed of metabolism, the level of blood clotting, the activity of inflammatory and infectious processes depend on it;
  • vitamin E has pronounced anti-inflammatory properties, helps fight arthritis and arthrosis, asthma, rheumatism and other inflammatory processes;
  • potassium and magnesium tidy up the cardiovascular and digestive systems, help eliminate toxins and waste;
  • Vitamin C strengthens the immune system and stimulates the nervous system, helps overcome depression, cope with insomnia, and actively resist stress;
  • Iodine prevents problems with the thyroid gland and supports the functioning of the hormonal system.

Regular consumption of persimmon helps improve digestion, normalize blood pressure, prevent the development of atherosclerosis, and restore the body's strength after a long illness. The sugar contained in persimmons is very useful for those suffering from heart failure, but in some cases it can cause harm to diabetics. Nutritionists draw attention to the need to eat only ripe fruits. If you eat unripe persimmons, there is a chance of causing intestinal obstruction and serious constipation.

Important

Green persimmons contain a large amount of tannin.

Allergy sufferers should introduce fruit into their diet carefully. If there is no reaction, you can continue to eat it, but you shouldn’t have too much of it in your diet.

If your immediate family member has a history of kidney or urinary stones, persimmon should be added to the list of prohibited foods, or allowed in minimal quantities. The composition of the foreign fruit is such that it can provoke the formation of stones. Those suffering from enuresis and urinary weakness should not experiment. Persimmon stimulates frequent urination.

And all lovers of this fruit should remember that persimmons should absolutely not be washed down with milk or water. This can cause severe diarrhea.

How to eat persimmon correctly

Persimmon, like any fruit, is most beneficial when consumed fresh. The peel of the fruit is edible, but it is precisely this that can impart bitterness and pronounced astringency, since the skins contain a lot of tannins. In addition, during transportation, for better preservation, persimmons can be treated with various “chemicals”; all the dirt and microbes settle on the surface, and mold often settles, so it is better to peel the skins from date plums.

The fruits can be consumed throughout the day as an addition to breakfast or lunch, or as a snack. You should not eat fruits on an empty stomach to avoid gastrointestinal problems. Before use, they need to be washed thoroughly, especially near the leaves, as dirt accumulates here.

If the persimmon is hard enough, then it should be peeled, all seeds removed, and cut into slices. According to etiquette, soft fruits are served whole in the form of “pots”. They remove the leaves and top, make approximately 1.5-2 cm vertical cuts in four places and eat the pulp with a spoon.

Is it possible to eat it at night?

Depending on the variety, persimmons contain from 20 to 40 g of carbohydrates and 60-70 kcal per 100 g. The glycemic index is within 45 units. Therefore, it is better to consume the fruit before 16:00, so that the body has time to completely process all the valuable components and does not store fat reserves.

It is not recommended to eat persimmon in the evening, and especially at night, because it contains a lot of dietary fiber, which can cause heaviness in the stomach and bloating.

Daily norm

Everyone can have their own norm for fruit consumption, taking into account the characteristics of the body and the presence of diseases. Doctors do not recommend that an adult eat more than 2 medium-sized pieces per day. For a child, the daily norm is half a date plum.

Excessive consumption of persimmons, as well as eating unripe fruits, causes various digestive disorders: diarrhea, nausea, increased gas formation, colic.

Berry seeds

Each fruit, depending on the variety, contains up to 12 seeds. They are very large and hard. You can't just eat them like that. The seeds can be consumed as seeds after drying and roasting. Another way to use them is to grind them into powder and brew them like coffee, or add such flour to baked goods. Nice indoor plants are also grown from seeds; they germinate very well.

What time of day is best to eat persimmon?

There are no general recommendations on what time of day is best to eat date plums. It all depends on the individual perception of the fetus.

It should be remembered that it is recommended to eat no earlier than half an hour after eating the berry. If you want to eat persimmon after eating, an hour should pass. Otherwise, you can get problems in the gastrointestinal tract.

Excessive consumption of persimmons negatively affects the digestive process and leads to unpleasant consequences.

Is it possible to eat persimmons at night?

Is it possible or not to eat persimmon at night? Can. The main thing is not to overdo it, know when to stop.

  1. Tropical fruits contain amino acids that help overcome insomnia, anxiety, and nervous agitation. A relaxed state promotes healthy sleep.
  2. Tryptophan produces serotonin, a pleasure hormone that fights depression.
  3. The average person sleeps seven to eight hours. During this time, food and liquid do not enter his body. The glucose contained in date plums promotes active brain activity. Glucose acts as an energy boost. 80% of the berry consists of water, which quenches thirst during sleep.
  4. Magnesium, a natural tranquilizer, calms the nervous system and promotes restful sleep.
  5. Fruits rich in fiber and pectin consumed before bedtime will normalize the functioning of the stomach and intestines and improve digestive processes. Fiber helps remove harmful substances from the body.
  6. The cardiovascular system reacts positively to the vitamins B, C, P and beneficial micro- and macroelements included in date plums. Sleep will be restful, promoting complete rest for the whole body.
  7. Vitamin A supports immunity.
  8. Protein strengthens muscle tissue.
  9. Calcium strengthens bones.

Therefore, there are no contraindications for eating persimmon before bed. The only recommendation: do not overeat.

It must be remembered that persimmon fruits contain glucose, which can contribute to weight gain, especially if you eat the berries before a night's rest.

Before or after meals, morning or evening

The tropical berry can be used as a breakfast or as an addition to it. Date plum as a dessert is recommended by nutritionists at least half an hour before lunch or an hour and a half after it. You can also eat persimmons in the evening: before or after dinner, maintaining the required time interval. Such recommendations take into account the composition of the berry, the number of calories - from 50 to 70 per 100 grams of product, and how the fruits are combined with other products.

Dried and dried persimmons

In our area, dried and sun-dried persimmon is very rare, but in Japan it is a quite common product called Hoshigaki. It is very sweet, not at all tart. This dried fruit is consumed as a sweet, added when brewing tea, and prepared compotes.

In dried form, date plum will bring as many benefits as fresh fruit. She:

  • improves appetite and activates digestion, as it is rich in fiber and pectin;
  • has a beneficial effect on the heart due to the abundance of potassium;
  • protects the eyes due to the content of carotenoids (zeaxanthin);
  • prolongs youth thanks to antioxidants.

However, when the fruits are dried, the concentration of sugars in them increases significantly, reaching up to 60%. In this form, persimmon is not recommended for people with diabetes; it should be used with caution by overweight people.

To try dried persimmons, you can prepare them yourself using an electric dryer or oven. It will take a very long time to dry the whole fruit, but slices in the form of chips will be much faster.

Is persimmon calorie content on a diet for dinner? Is it possible to eat persimmons at night when losing weight?

Most girls who want to lose weight refuse any food after 18-19 hours.
In the evening, they experience terrible hunger, but are forced to endure this terrible feeling for fear of gaining weight and gaining a few extra pounds. Indeed, eating almost any food at night does quite a lot of harm to the body, because the calories produced are not burned due to slow metabolism at night, but, on the contrary, are stored as fat deposits. In addition, all internal organs and systems of the human body are under increased stress, so eating before bed can cause not only a slimming figure, but also the occurrence of certain health problems.

At the same time, there are foods that you can and even need to eat at night when losing weight, and one of them is persimmon. The presence of an amino acid such as tryptophan in its composition eliminates excessive psycho-emotional stress, relieves insomnia, reduces manifestations of aggressiveness, irritability and increased excitability. All this helps women and men deeply relax and fall into a calm and serene sleep.

In addition, during some strict diets, the feeling of hunger, even in a dream, does not leave girls who are fighting with all their might to keep their figure slim. Ripe fruit, which is 80% water, can soothe an empty stomach and provide hydration to the body.

The only thing that must be done after eating persimmon at night is to brush your teeth, since the tannic acids and sugar it contains can cause the development of caries and other dental diseases.

Are frozen persimmons good for you?

To make a stock of healthy and tasty fruit, you should freeze it. If the size of the freezer allows, then the fruits must be washed, wrapped in several layers of cling film and hidden entirely for saving. A more compact option is to peel, cut into cubes or small slices, and place in plastic containers.

Storage at low temperatures (-12...-18 degrees) completely preserves all the valuable substances of the product and allows you to enjoy it all year round. Also, when frozen, persimmons lose their astringency. However, after thawing, the fruit will have a slightly watery taste and will lose its elasticity, so adding it to a salad will not work. But for making cream, smoothie, sauce, fruit puree is quite suitable. Date plums cannot be re-frozen.

What to cook

Persimmons can be eaten fresh, or they can be used to prepare surprisingly simple but tasty delicacies:

  1. Cocktail. Peel and seed a large pear and a medium-sized persimmon. Place the pulp in a blender. Pour a glass of milk, add a pinch of cinnamon and 100 g. crushed ice. Beat at low speed until smooth.
  2. Salad. Peel two thick persimmons and cut into cubes. Divide the orange into slices. Slice the juicy but dense pear, just like the persimmon. Carefully place in a salad bowl, top with natural yoghurt, and sprinkle with walnuts or peanuts when serving.
  3. Syrniki. Mix the pulp of one persimmon with 200 g of cottage cheese, egg and flour. Form cheesecakes with wet hands and fry them in a small amount of butter until golden brown.
  4. Sauce. Mix the pureed pulp of one ripe persimmon with a spoon of natural yogurt, a few drops of honey and your favorite fresh herbs. You can add lemon or lime juice to taste.

Advice

Experiments conducted by Japanese scientists and published in the Annals of Nutrition & Metabolism (2013) showed that eating yellow pulp effectively reduces the level of “bad” LDL cholesterol.

A rich color indicates a high beta-carotene content. It improves vision, strengthens the immune system, and protects against cardiovascular diseases. Do not forget that pigment is absorbed only together with fats.

Thanks to antioxidants and tannins, persimmons reduce inflammatory stress. This is evidenced by tests on rats conducted by employees of Kashihara Medical University (Japan).

Persimmon: benefits and harm to women's health

The orange delicacy is useful for those suffering from anemia during heavy menstruation. One copy contains a third of the daily norm of cobalt. Its deficiency is manifested by symptoms:

  • increased fatigue,
  • memory impairment,
  • cardiac dysfunction.

In order not to provoke an allergy in the child, nursing mothers are advised to refrain from the delicious dessert.

Bull's heart

The juicy soft consistency is ideal for home cosmetology.

A persimmon face mask is suitable for skin prone to rashes, dryness and irritation. The easiest option is to cut a slice and wipe your face. For those who are not looking for simple ways, I offer another recipe:

This is an effective remedy for the first wrinkles. The procedure slows down aging, cleanses, and gives a light peeling effect.

  • Grind a quarter of a persimmon. Take a dessert spoon and separate the juice along with the fibers into a container.
  • Add 5 grams of sour cream, plus the same amount of natural honey.
  • Mix 1 tsp. potato starch.
  • Use a blender to mix evenly.

If the persimmon you bought is very soft, like pudding, slightly frostbitten, then it cannot be saved at all. This delicacy should be eaten within 24 hours, otherwise it will simply ferment.

Hard fruits have a long shelf life. At temperatures from 0 to +1 degrees, date plum does not lose its properties for 2 months, but such conditions are difficult to create at home. It can also be kept for a week on the balcony in a wooden or plastic box with enough holes for ventilation.

Frozen persimmons can be stored until the next harvest, if they are not thawed or re-frozen. Therefore, when storing for savings, it is better to pack the product in small containers, in portions, just for one use.

How much persimmon can you eat per day without harm to your health and how to do it correctly?

A safe dose for most people is 150g. This is one medium-sized fruit that is best eaten fresh. It is important that it is completely ripe.

I wash, cut and eat out the middle. I really like the jelly-like consistency.

Not everyone knows how to eat persimmon correctly. Basic recommendations:

  • Spit out the bones.
  • Leave the skin, even though it is thin. It contains most of the tannins, which sometimes cause stomach problems.
  • Do not combine fruits with protein dishes. Under the influence of tannic acids, food is less digestible.
  • Don't eat on an empty stomach. The best option is to eat it between main meals, like melon.

Persimmon is widely used in oriental cooking for preparing salads, hot dishes, and desserts. It is used to make marshmallows, marmalade, brew drinks and add to baked goods. It is eaten fresh or dried. I wasn’t impressed with the jam; I think it’s a waste of time.

Dried persimmons have been a famous Chinese delicacy since the Han Dynasty.

When preparing the article, I looked through a huge number of both Russian-language and foreign sources. I noticed some inconsistency in them.

Domestic authors scare people with “horror stories” about bezoars. These are stones that form in the stomach from certain foods. Particular blame is placed on unripe persimmons with excess tannins. Its fibers (rarely) can stick together, forming conglomerates.

At the same time, foreign authors emphasize that it is precisely this kind of persimmon, rich in tannins, tart and astringent, that has the most powerful medicinal properties.

The truth most likely lies “out there”
