It perfectly complements the metal body of the device, painted in dark gray “Leaf Grey”. Of course, there is a chance of the fabric getting dirty, and if in doubt, then you can choose the version with a metal lid. In this case, by the way, not only dark gray colors are available, but also the colors “Orchid” (burgundy shade) and “Dark Moss” (swamp green).
I still like the option with a fabric cover the most. When open, a small fabric edging is visible on the sides of the display. The glass panel seems to hide under it, which visually reduces the already thin frames around the screen. The thickness of the case is only 15.4 mm, while the engineers have placed a full set of necessary connectors: there are two USB-C (Thunderbolt + DisplayPort + Power Delivery), HDMI, two USB-A 3.1 Gen 2, a microSD reader and a 3.5 mm combined audio jack.
On the side there is also a power button, which has a built-in fingerprint scanner. It is located flush with the body, which makes it difficult to feel and not very convenient to press. But the company has provided an option to start the laptop when the lid is opened. You can activate it in Lenovo Vantage proprietary software. By the way, the lid itself has rather tight hinges, which may be a little unusual at first. You won't be able to open the device with one hand. But the display shakes less when, for example, you type while holding the laptop on your lap. The device weighs 1.4 kg, dimensions: 321.6 mm x 208 mm x 15.4 mm. In general, I would like to give the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 an “excellent” rating for the assembly and appearance.

The laptop screen also deserves praise. Yoga Slim 7 is equipped with a 14-inch glossy IPS display with 4K UHD resolution (3840x2160 pixels). The maximum brightness is stated at 500 nits, which is a good indicator. Refresh rate - 60 Hz. The matrix used is manufactured by AUO, model B140ZAN01.3. In complete darkness, you can see small highlights near the edges, but not critical. The matrix has good color rendition, I can’t make any complaints about the image quality.
Yoga Slim 7 is also available with a Full HD IPS display. It has a lower brightness reserve (up to 300 nits), but versions with a touch panel are optionally available. For 14 inches, this resolution should be enough, but still the picture looks very nice on a 4K screen.
Hardware and performance
Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 can be found in both versions with AMD and Intel processors. We are reviewing a model with an Intel Core i7-1165G7 chip and integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics. There is 8 GB of RAM available (DDR4, dual-channel). A 256 GB NMVe drive from Samsung is installed, which produces excellent results in CrystalDiskMark (3382 MB/s read, 1851 MB/s write).
As you might expect, Yoga Slim 7 copes well with office tasks and graphics processing in Photoshop/Lightroom - everything flies, it’s very comfortable to work with. I would only choose the version with 16 GB of RAM. But when it comes to gaming, the Intel Iris Xe graphics card is not enough. In the not-so-new F1 2021, at the lowest graphics settings it produces an average of 15 fps. In Dota 2, at minimum settings, 30-40 fps is already more playable, but at times there are drops to 20 fps. Actually, the benchmarks confirm the observations - the laptop is suitable for work, but for games it is better to look for something else. In the AIDA stress test, the processor immediately begins to throttle at temperatures below 100 degrees, but then quickly lowers the frequencies and brings the temperature to a more acceptable level.
Wi-Fi 6 (Intel AX201) and Bluetooth modules are available as wireless interfaces. During the entire testing period, the connection was stable and provided excellent data transfer speeds. The cooling system is not very noisy, but still makes itself felt periodically. Under load, the body becomes moderately warm. Still, keep in mind that this is a compact device with a fairly powerful processor.
Keyboard, touchpad, multimedia
Yoga Slim 7 has a full-size keyboard with two-level backlighting. It is convenient to work with it, the key travel is adjusted and comfortable. By default, a number of function keys are activated. The touchpad is not very large due to the compactness of the laptop itself, however, the finger glides over it perfectly and multi-touch gestures are supported.
A pair of two-watt speakers with support for Dolby Atmos technology are located on the sides of the keyboard. This could be considered an advantage of the device, but the sound in Yoga Slim 7 was frankly disappointing. There is no bass, which makes the sound sound flat. There is enough volume reserve, but I would prefer to listen to music or watch a movie with headphones.
The built-in webcam produces a picture of average quality. It should be fine for Zoom conferences. But there are IR sensors for the Windows Hello function. Unlocking occurs very quickly even in complete darkness.
Autonomy Lenovo Yoga Slim 7
A 60 Wh battery should last about 11 hours (for the version with a 4K display), as Lenovo itself assures. In practice, we have approximately 4 hours of office work with 100% brightness and an Internet connection. In the PC Mark test the result was 4 hours 57 minutes. But if you reduce the brightness to somewhere around 70%, you can quite achieve better results.
In any case, you can charge the Yoga Slim 7 via USB-C, which is definitely nice. Moreover, it has a fast charging function. 30 minutes of mains power from 95W charging in standby or off mode can replenish up to 50% of battery life. True, the kit includes a 65 W power supply, but it is compact and will not take up much space in your backpack.
It's nice that both USB-C ports support charging. But the idea of placing them on one side is clearly not one of the best. It would be much more convenient to have USB-C on the left and right, so that the charging cable can be positioned normally if the outlet is on the right side.
