Calorie content of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks: table of calorie content per 100 grams

Many people take care of their health by eating healthy and observing the calorie content of their food. This article will talk about the calorie content of drinks, because it is an integral part of nutrition.

In order to start talking about the calorie content of drinks, you first need to understand what this indicator is and what it says.

Calorie content is the energy that is released during the breakdown of components of food consumed. Each ingredient has its own heat value, which determines its energy value. It is measured in kilocalories (kCal) or kilojoules (kJ). The weight of our body depends on calorie content, so people on a diet carefully monitor this indicator.

IMPORTANT: for people suffering from diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and endocrine system, calorie content is very important; the average calorie intake per day is 2500 kcal/day (recommended by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation). The main thing is not to confuse calorie content with the nutritional value of a product, which indicates the content of proteins, carbohydrates and fats.

Soft drinks are perhaps the largest group of drinks, characterized by a huge variety.

Non-alcoholic drinks are drinks that do not contain alcohol, or contain a negligible amount of it.

For example, kvass and kefir, due to the fact that these are fermented drinks, include a small amount of alcohol in their composition, but these drinks are classified as non-alcoholic. Non-alcoholic drinks include tea, coffee, compotes, lemonades, fruit drinks, juices, kvass, dairy products, various herbal decoctions, jelly, sbitni, and many others.

What are the highest calorie drinks?

Oksana Nikolaevna Komarova, Candidate of Medical Sciences, gastroenterologist-nutritionist, Research Institute of Pediatrics of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences

– The calorie content of any drink depends on the ingredients included in its composition. For example, soft drinks may contain other nutrients in addition to sugars that contribute to the overall caloric content of the product and, of course, its nutritional value. Take, for example, milk and fermented milk drinks. Their energy value varies and depends on the fat content. For example, a glass of milk (200 ml) with 3.2% fat content contains 116 kcal, 3.2% kefir – 112 kcal, while 0–1% kefir contains 60–70 kcal. For comparison, sweet carbonated drinks contain on average 40-50 kcal.

Other drinks, such as jelly, are prepared from fruits, berries, juices, syrups, jams, milk with the addition of potato or corn starch or grain starter. The energy value of such drinks will depend not only on the composition, but also on the density of the drink. A denser jelly may not even be a drink, but a dessert dish. Thus, if we talk about a medium-density drink, then its energy value, depending on the composition, will vary from 110 to 150 kcal per 200-gram glass of the product. For example, milk jelly contains 200 kcal per 200 g.

But, of course, the most high-calorie drinks are alcoholic ones. At the same time, there is a directly proportional relationship between the strength of the drink and its calorie content: the higher the degree, the greater the calorie content. To calculate the number of units of alcohol in a drink, you need to multiply the volume of the drink by the alcohol content and divide by 1000. So, for 100 g of vodka (40-proof), the calculation will be as follows: 100 x 40/1000, we get 4 - this is the number of units of alcohol. 1 unit contains about 60 calories. Next 60x4. Consequently, drinking 100 g of vodka, the body receives energy in the amount of 240 kcal. The same goes for other strong drinks - whiskey, gin, cognac, etc. But a traditional glass of wine (150 ml) with dinner will increase its calorie content by a little more than 100 kcal. Of course, it is important to calculate the total calorie content, which depends on the amount drunk. For example, it would seem that 100 ml of beer contains only about 30 kcal, but drinking a 500 ml bottle of beer (5%) already adds 160 kcal. Yes, plus the traditional beer snack is usually high in calories. Such hobbies correspond to the motto: “No to a slim figure!”

When choosing a drink, you should think not only about its energy value, because the varied ingredient composition increases not only the calorie content of the drink, but also its nutritional value, enriching the diet with healthy proteins, fats, vitamins, macro- and micronutrients. And drinks that only contain calories are created more for pleasure.
