Mikhail Alekseevich Gavrilov is not a nutritionist (as many people think due to the popularity of Gavrilov’s diet), but a psychiatrist, psychotherapist, candidate of medical sciences, senior researcher at the gerontology laboratory, where they study the structure of living beings, including humans. Mikhail Alekseevich has excellent theoretical training and knowledge in the field of physiological and psychological aspects of the body’s work, so Gavrilov’s diet is easily tolerated and gives the desired result.

In 1998, Gavrilov defended his dissertation on the connection between the psychological and physical state of the body in women when losing weight. Gavrilov’s diet is known to everyone who tried to lose weight and looked for information about diets on the Internet. After all, Gavrilov is the author of several popular science books, as well as a large number of scientific articles, often acts as an expert on nutrition rules on leading Russian television channels, and is the head of 63 enterprises of the Dr. Gavrilov Weight Loss Center association.

What is Dr. Gavrilov's diet

The technique is based not only on adjusting the menu, but also on the ability to control your desires. Gavrilov’s diet includes a psychological aspect, helps to get rid of excess weight without starvation, the child learns to eat healthy food, not to overeat, and eat small meals. All the products necessary for the diet menu are publicly available; you can purchase them without problems at any supermarket. Changing the entire nutrition system according to Gavrilov’s method will protect you from regaining the lost pounds.

The essence of the diet

A person who decides to lose excess weight must not only change his diet, he must understand how Dr. Gavrilov’s diet works. Only by understanding the essence will the person losing weight begin to lose weight quickly and actively. For those who cannot contact the center directly, Dr. Gavrilov’s club has been created. This is a site on the Internet where you can sign up for a course and complete it yourself. To help all users, Dr. Gavrilov's Slimness Tape has been developed - a tool that will guide you through all stages of weight loss. The doctor's program highlights the following steps:

Stage 1

One of the most important aspects of the diet is a complete medical examination, identifying pathologies that could cause weight gain. If symptoms are detected, they are treated using preventive and functional medicine. Medications are not specifically used, because the human body is “clogged” with harmful substances, and medications can aggravate this condition.

Stage 2

After treating the body, treatment of the spirit begins, psychophysiological training is used to help patients understand themselves, deal with their fears, which on a subconscious level become the cause of overeating and obesity. Then they begin to carry out methods aimed at getting rid of food addiction. All this helps to optimize and activate natural processes in the human body, creating optimal conditions for the operation of all systems.

Stage 3

According to Gavrilov’s method, the client loses most of the weight in the second stage, and the task of the 3rd is to consolidate the achieved result. The clinic staff conducts constant training, which is aimed at convincing the patient that his future depends on his willpower and appearance. The method is based on reinforcing words with positive (the person started a family, got the desired position) and negative results in comparison.

Basic principles of the Gavrilov diet

Obesity is considered a systemic disorder of the body . Before dealing with a violation, you need to understand the reasons. Gavrilov bases his method on eliminating the relationship between stress and food. People, under the guidance of specialists, learn to understand their body . Working with the underlying causes, they find a solution together.

Doctor Gavrilov

The main principles of his methodology are:

  • control of one’s own desires and needs for food;
  • the need to recognize hunger;
  • visualization of the desired forms.

Gavrilov's method helps only those who really want to lose weight

Dr. Gavrilov's method for weight loss

The diet according to this scheme has a huge number of positive reviews. Dr. Gavrilov’s weight loss method is a nutrition system that allows you to achieve quick results without serious food restrictions. The diet will bring the desired results only if the basic rules are strictly followed:

  1. You need to eat small portions during and after the diet, always at the same time.
  2. One of the main aspects is the psychological attitude; only having a clear goal will help you lose weight and get a beautiful, healthy body.
  3. Dr. Gavrilova recommends minimizing or completely avoiding the consumption of sweets, smoked foods, fast food, and fatty foods.
  4. The diet should include foods rich in vitamins: cheese, cereals, cereals and bran, fish, yoghurts.
  5. You need to drink a lot of water.
  6. In Gavrilov’s diet, the main place is occupied by fruits (except bananas) and raw vegetables.

Psychological attitude towards losing weight

An important stage when following Dr. Gavrilov’s diet is to realize your desire and problems on the path to weight loss. The author claims that the mindset to lose weight is the primary task for a person; this should be titanic, painstaking work on oneself. Dr. Gavrilov’s diet provides the main steps on the path to weight loss:

  1. You cannot delay the start of losing weight, a person must understand that he needs to start losing weight right now, he must want it.
  2. Firm confidence in success; you cannot go on a diet with the thought that something will not work out. Take this process seriously and responsibly and everything will definitely work out.
  3. The patient must realize where the feeling of hunger begins, and where the need on an emotional level to “drown out” another problem with food.

Basic principles of the diet

Dr. Gavrilov’s method for losing weight is based, according to the author, on correct thinking. Many cultures around the world claim that thoughts are material, so it is important to get rid of unconstructive thoughts and replace them with positive ones. This is not easy to do, so a person before going on a diet must prepare himself well mentally. The basic rules for losing weight using the Gavrilov method contain the following aspects:

  • control over all your own desires that relate to food;
  • eradication of the habit of overeating;
  • awareness and control of the concepts of “desire”, “hunger”, “weight”;
  • visualization of goals;
  • processing of acquired knowledge and its application in practice.

The weight loss method of Dr. Mikhail Alekseevich Gavrilov is based on a comprehensive psychophysiological approach, which includes diagnosing the causes of excess weight gain, normalizing eating behavior, reducing food addiction, the ability to manage the achieved result, as well as treatment of diseases associated with obesity and the formation of a healthy lifestyle. The fundamentals of psychophysiology, dietology and nutrition, the principles of creating a healthy lifestyle, allow the method to be highly effective, i.e., capable of helping almost any person lose weight, restore health, and use the acquired knowledge and skills in the future.

The method is protected by 7 Russian patents and one Eurasian patent, which indicates its uniqueness and fundamental differences from others.

The comprehensive program is both educational and develops new skills, which are practiced directly during online training and during independent work. Testing of skills and abilities is constantly monitored by specialists through regular online support, as well as during control and supportive online meetings. Guaranteed assistance is provided throughout the entire weight loss journey.

A significant difference between Dr. Gavrilov’s method is the recognition of the problem of relapse (weight return), which is kept silent by the vast majority of sellers of weight loss products and services. Relapse prevention is carried out using proprietary support programs aimed at solving various tasks and problems that arise in the process of weight loss, as well as a set of rehabilitation measures.

For the first time in Russia and the CIS countries, Dr. Gavrilov’s method uses functional medicine technologies and the latest psychophysiological methods for restoring the activity of parts of the brain associated with overeating for weight loss, which make it possible to restore brain functions and key imbalances in the body without the use of chemical drugs.

Gavrilov Mikhail Alekseevich is personally responsible for the training of psychotherapeutic specialists and guarantees the high quality of services.

The co-author of the weight loss program is biologist, clinical psychologist Irina Vladimirovna Maltseva, who developed and implemented the principles of functional medicine, diagnostic and psychophysiological techniques into the program.

The authors of the program are members of the International Association for the Study of Obesity (IASO), members of the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM, USA), specialists from Amen Clinics (USA), specialists in preventive and anti-aging medicine (International Institute PreventAge).

List of prohibited and permitted products

The list of restrictions on this technique is so short that many people are surprised at first. You won’t have to starve or suffer from malnutrition; nothing threatens the health of your stomach and intestines. Gavrilov's diet: psychology and nutrition

Gavrilov's diet is a combination of psychology (remember that Gavrilov is a psychiatrist) with adjustment of eating style . This approach helps to endure the adjustment without suffering and consolidate a new way of life and nutrition, so that the weight does not return. Simplicity and effectiveness have made Gavrilov's diet popular all over the world.

The new stage will be radically different from your previous life. You will look and - most importantly - feel completely different. You will acquire the healthy habit of eating in small portions and will not have time to get hungry between meals. Stop overeating and eating more than your body needs, and then reproach yourself for being weak-willed and spineless.

Authorized Products

Any vegetables and fruits are allowed in Gavrilov's diet. Raw, stewed, boiled, steamed. A very loyal approach to meat: chicken and turkey (fillet or breast, but other parts are also possible), beef, veal and even such a non-dietary product as pork. Seafood and fish are also welcome.

Diet rules

Gavrilov believes that fasting is harmful to the body, so there are no fasting days on water in his diet. There is some limitation in the number of products and the direction of the method of preparing them in a healthy direction. So, fried food in oil or without oil is not welcome in the diet. You can use virtually any meat, but it needs to be boiled, baked or steamed.

The disgrace also applies to foods that – and everyone knows this – cause weight gain, in particular fat. This is food that does not add energy and vitality to you, but rather takes it away, quietly depositing on your thighs. Bakery products and pasta will have to be removed. The exception is 1-2 pieces of bread with bran per day.

Several types of foods are strictly prohibited in Gavrilov’s diet:

  • Sweets (including chocolate, toffee, lollipops);
  • 2 canned foods: mushrooms and sprat in tomato sauce (other stews are also undesirable);

    Candies

    Sprat in tomato

  • Fast food, especially consisting of buns with meat and a lot of sauces (hot dogs, hamburgers, just sandwiches, shawarma);
  • White bread (including buns, cookies), cakes, pastries;
  • Milk and white chocolate, margarine, nut-chocolate spreads, butter.

    Fast food

    White bread

    White chocolate

These products are excluded in almost all diets. But you can eat sweets. We simply replace harmful and fatty foods with healthier and low-calorie foods. We switch to marmalade, marshmallows, dark chocolate.

How much water to drink on a diet?

In any diet (and just in life), water plays an important role. Surely, you have thought more than once why everyone advises drinking 1.5-2 liters of water or green tea a day? There are at least 3 reasons.

Be sure to read: Symptoms and causes of stage 4 obesity, treatment methods

Water fills the stomach and reduces hunger; you eat less if you drink a glass of water 15-20 minutes before meals.

How much water to drink on a diet

Water is needed by the cells of the body; it accelerates cellular metabolism and contributes to the normal functioning of all body systems. Water evaporates and is removed from the body and its reserves need to be replenished. A simple example: if after 1-2 hours of working at the computer you feel “sand” in your eyes, drink a glass of water, and after a while you will feel better.

When you start drinking more, excess fluid begins to be eliminated from the body faster. The first kilograms lost on a diet are almost always not fat, but excess fluid. That is why, after the first successes, the weight stays the same for some time. Don't panic, this means you are moving on to the second stage - fat burning.

The 2 liters of water per day recommended in all diets is a very average figure. In fact, the daily norm is calculated using the formula: divide your weight in kilograms by 30. If you weigh 90 kilograms, you need to drink 3 liters.

Start increasing the amount of water gradually to “disperse” the kidneys. First, just calculate how much water you usually drink. Gradually add a glass per day until you reach the desired volume.

Doctor Gavrilov's diet menu

Nutrition according to the author’s system is complete, balanced and helps you lose weight with pleasure. The menu for each day is compiled with the calculation of calories, excluding harmful foods. An approximate diet for one day is as follows:

  1. Breakfast - coffee with milk, cereal with milk with fruits and berries.
  2. The first snack is tea with milk, a slice of cheese.
  3. Lunch - prepare vegetable soup, you can eat baked potatoes without oil, cottage cheese;
  4. Second snack – juice, fruit/vegetable salad;
  5. Dinner – boiled/stewed fish, vegetable stew;
  6. Third snack – kefir/yogurt.

Three stages for weight loss

To achieve a sustainable result, you need to go through several stages .

Stage 1. Comprehensive examination

Excess weight is not always a consequence of overeating. Sometimes the cause is diseases that a person is not aware of. A multilevel examination identifies possible causes of obesity. If the disease is detected, drug treatment is prescribed.

Stage 2. Individual recommendations for weight loss

Having received comprehensive information about the patient’s condition, the doctor draws up a program of action . The patient visits various specialists and undergoes psychological trainings that help him understand himself. Classes with a psychologist involve breathing exercises and psychotherapeutic exercises. The nutritionist creates a menu for every day. He selects the right products and gives recommendations for cooking.

Stage 3. Consolidation of results

After achieving the desired result, the patient remains registered for some time. Control examinations are being carried out. The doctors' actions are aimed at preventing the patient from losing his temper .

The fact is that the modern food industry offers the consumer many products that stimulate food receptors . Such food causes food addiction - a condition in which a person eats not to satisfy hunger, but to lift his mood.

The patient’s task at this stage is not to succumb to the provocations of stores offering tasty but unhealthy food.

Pros and cons of the diet

A common mistake that people make when they want to lose weight is severe food restriction. Mikhail Gavrilov’s diet is built on strengthening a person’s desire to lose weight and improve appearance. Next comes the rejection of a small list of harmful products, replacing them with healthier options. Gavrilov’s diet prevents a person from overeating, which affects all body systems and helps to lose pounds. The doctor points out that the task is not to limit the amount of food, but to adjust its quality, change the patient’s thinking, emotional state, attitude towards oneself and food.

There are no methods or diets that have no downsides at all. The disadvantage of Gavrilov’s scheme is that it is extremely difficult to cope in the first stages without outside help from specialists. They must carry out work that will help a person get on the right path. But then the patient can continue losing weight at home without any problems; on the official website, through your personal account, you can monitor your progress and stages of the diet.

Conversation with a doctor about women's health

As we age, we change, and this is inevitable. However, how quickly we lose our energy over the years depends primarily on us, on our attitude to our health, on our lifestyle and, to a large extent, on our heredity. The head of the Center for Obstetrics and Gynecology, leading specialist at the GMS Clinic, Tatyana Ivanovna Leites, will talk about the secrets of female longevity and many other secrets of age-related changes in the body.

Tatyana Ivanovna, explain to our readers what menopause is, when can it begin and how does it manifest itself?

The absence of menstruation for 12 months in adulthood, confirmed by a certain level of sex hormones, gives rise to a diagnosis of menopause. All changes occur gradually: menstrual flow becomes scarcer, the interval between them shortens about a year before the cessation.

The average age of menopause is 50-51 years. 1% of women experience so-called early menopause as early as 40 years of age. Possible development of late menopause (after 53 years).

Surgical menopause occurs after removal of the uterus and ovaries. Signs of approaching menopause: a sudden feeling of heat, repeated hot flashes during the day, interfering with communication with other people, night sweats, interspersed with a feeling of coldness and causing sleep disturbance, fatigue, memory impairment - all this may be absent or persistent and prolonged, which greatly reduces the quality of life .

The frequency and severity of these symptoms largely depends on the woman’s lifestyle, health status and is largely genetically predetermined, so I always advise my patients to check with their mother about how she experienced menopause.

Do you need to prepare for menopause and if yes, then why?

In the modern world, after menopause, a woman lives for about 30 more years. During this period, significant changes occur in a woman’s body. At an early stage of gradual decline in ovarian function and a decrease in the amount of estrogen, vasomotor symptoms occur. After about five years of menopause, urogenital symptoms, urinary incontinence, and signs of prolapse of the vaginal walls may appear. After 60 years, urogenital syndrome, hypothyroidism, non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis and some cancers progress. After 70 years, cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, strokes, coronary heart disease, as well as dementia, breast cancer and various oncological diseases appear.

Women often go to the doctor late, usually only when symptoms appear. I recommend taking care of your health long before the onset of menopause, because if a woman approaches the age of 50 with a certain baggage of chronic diseases, then her menopause will be more severe. If, by the time of menopause, she is not overweight, has regular physical activity, proper balanced nutrition, and a favorite activity that gives a feeling of satisfaction, then this guarantees an easier passage through menopause and preservation of health for many years. It turns out that it depends only on ourselves how we will live the 20–30 years of our mature life: actively or painfully fading.

But even a completely healthy postmenopausal woman should remember the need for regular preventive examinations, including general and biochemical blood tests, checking thyroid hormone levels, smear tests, screening for cervical cancer, pelvic ultrasound, breast examination and mammography .

What most often worries women when they think about the aging process?

Women are most afraid of changes in appearance: aging skin, decreased joint mobility, sprained musculo-ligamentous apparatus. This is quite reasonable, since a decrease in the level of sex hormones leads to changes in the homeostasis of all tissues containing collagen and elastin.

Another common cause of concern is decreased libido and impaired sexual function. A persistent decrease in the level of estrogen (female sex hormone) leads to severe dryness, vulnerability, insecurity of the vaginal and vulvar mucosa, pain during sexual intercourse, which leads to disappointment, dissatisfaction and ultimately avoidance.

Fears regarding the risk of developing pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremities are common. These fears are justified for women who smoke, women with excess body weight, physical inactivity and an unfavorable family history. Hormone replacement therapy is not recommended in these cases due to the high risk of thrombosis. Many people worry about the consequences of osteoporosis.

For a healthy woman with a normal height-to-weight ratio, densitometry (testing bone density) is indicated after 60 years of age.

However, thin, smoking women with a family or personal history of pathological fractures should be examined as early as 50 years of age, because they often develop early osteopenia and osteoporosis, and therefore have a high risk of injury and disability.

Is there anything we can do to help such patients?

Of course it is possible. The most effective method for correcting early climacteric disorders and preventing long-term consequences of menopause is hormone replacement therapy (HRT), which is prescribed for severe symptoms. The essence of treatment is to pharmacologically replenish (replace) lost ovarian function. The therapy uses estrogens, gestagens, and in some cases androgens. Androgens are prescribed to improve libido and sexual function. But I must say that these drugs for women are not presented on the Russian market due to insufficient information on the safety of their use. But combination drugs containing estrogens and gestagens have been sufficiently studied, are safe when used correctly in the first five years of menopause, and are widely used in our practice.

The use of hormone replacement therapy improves the condition of the skin, mucous membranes, musculoskeletal system, cartilage tissue, and maintains vascular tone. It has been proven that women who have used or are using HRT before the age of 60 are less likely to need joint surgery and the risk of pathological fractures is reduced. It has also been proven that in women who previously did not have any cardiovascular pathology, mortality from coronary heart disease is reduced. In the long term, this could actually reduce overall mortality from cardiovascular diseases.

The timing and duration of taking HRT is important.

It is known that hormone replacement therapy used at the age of 40–60 years can reduce, but after 60 years, on the contrary, lead to the progression of dementia (dementia). You need to understand that HRT can only be prescribed:

  • in the first years of menopause (40–60 years);
  • in the presence of severe symptoms of menopause;
  • after a thorough examination by a gynecologist to eliminate possible risks;
  • under systemic medical supervision.

HRT is contraindicated in women with lipid metabolism disorders, a history of deep vein thrombosis, chronic liver disease, and in some other cases. Women aged 50 should, without a doubt, consult their gynecologist about the possibility of prescribing HRT, and it is better to monitor their health at the age of 45 and prepare for a new stage of life.

There are different ways to take HRT:

  1. Pills.
  2. Transdermal forms of estrogen drugs in the form of patches and gels. They are considered safer in terms of thromboembolic complications and can be prescribed to women who have previously had their uterus removed, as well as subject to the additional and mandatory use of gestagens in the form of tablets or the Mirena intrauterine system (if a uterus is present).
  3. Local forms of estrogens in the form of creams and suppositories are used to improve the condition of the mucous membrane of the vagina and urethra, to treat atrophy and manifestations of urogenital syndrome. This is always true for sexually active women in adulthood.
  4. Phytoestrogens are herbal preparations that can reduce the symptoms of menopause. Unfortunately, the level of evidence for their use is very low. The effectiveness of these drugs, compared to hormonal ones, is also low for severe vasomotor symptoms.

It is very important to understand that the period of menopause and postmenopause for a woman is a third of her life, for which it is worth preparing, being healthy, slim, beautiful, and prosperous. Consult your gynecologist in advance and get effective treatment if problems arise. Take care of your health!

There is no need to fight menopause, you need to learn to live with it in harmony. It is worth reconsidering your lifestyle strategy: quit smoking, limit alcohol consumption, maintain good physical shape, intellectual and social activity, follow dietary recommendations, control your weight. You can’t assume that it’s enough to start taking medicine and life will get better. This doesn't happen. You need to understand this in time and take the path of a healthy lifestyle!
