  6. Nutrition according to blood group IV (type AB) (food table, menu)
  7. Is it possible to lose weight on a blood type diet?

The blood type diet has been popular for several decades. Proponents of this diet suggest that your blood type determines which foods are best for your health.

Following a suitable diet will guarantee not only weight loss, but also overall health, and recommendations range from strict vegetarianism for blood type 2 to a meat-based paleo diet for blood group 1. But what are the details of the blood type diet and is it based on any solid evidence?

The principle of the blood type diet, the scientific basis

The diet was popularized by naturopathic physician Peter D'Adamo in 1996. His book "4 Blood Types - 4 Lifestyles" became a New York Times bestseller, sold millions of copies and is still extremely popular.

The author believed that during the process of evolution, the composition of human blood changed with changes in the type of food. The diet and type of metabolism were formed under the prevailing type of social labor. These postulates formed the basis of the blood group diet.

Depending on the type of activity, certain foods predominated in the diet of ancient people: meat, plant foods, dairy products. Nutritional dominance caused the formation of different blood groups.

According to the authors, to maintain health, a person must eat foods that suit him. The rest need to be excluded or their presence minimized. Otherwise, metabolic processes fail and obesity develops.

There is logic in building such a health system. Long-term practice of its use notes evidence of improved functionality of internal organs and loss of excess weight.

People with the same blood type share common characteristics

:

  • biorhythms;
  • food preferences;
  • level of stress resistance;
  • tendency to the same diseases.

During the analysis of people's nutrition by blood type, 3 categories of products were identified:

  1. Harmful

    .They break down and release toxic substances - they have a negative effect on the body.

  2. Neutral

    .Do not change the intensity of metabolic processes, but do not bring benefits.

  3. Useful

    .They act only positively: they normalize metabolic processes and provide energy.

As such, the blood type diet divides all people into four types - “hunters” with blood type O(I), “farmers” with blood type A(II), “nomads” with type B(III) and mixed type with type AB(IV).

The basic recommendations are quite universal and suitable for any person, healthy eating tips.

One of the central theories of the blood type diet involves proteins called lectins.

Lectins

are a diverse family of proteins that can bind sugar molecules. These substances are considered antinutrients and can have negative effects on the intestinal lining.

According to the blood type diet theory, the diet contains many lectins specifically targeted to different blood types. It is claimed that consuming the wrong types of lectins for your blood type can lead to agglutination (clumping together) of red blood cells.

In fact, there is evidence that a small percentage of lectins in raw legumes may have blood type-specific agglutinating activity.

For example, raw lima beans may only interact with red blood cells in people with blood type A. However, most agglutinating lectins react with all ABO blood types.

In other words, lectins in the diet are independent of blood type, with the exception of a few varieties of raw legumes.

This may not be the case because most legumes are soaked and/or cooked before consumption, which destroys harmful lectins.

What do the studies say?

Blood group research has advanced rapidly in the last few years and decades.

There is now good evidence that people with certain blood types may have a higher or lower risk of certain diseases.

For example, people with blood type O have a lower risk of heart disease but a higher risk of stomach ulcers.

However, there are no studies showing that this has anything to do with diet.

In a large observational study of 1,455 young people, eating a Type A diet (high in fruits and vegetables) was associated with better health outcomes. But this effect was seen in everyone who ate a type A diet, not just people with type A blood.

One of the studies that found a link between blood types and food allergies actually contradicted the blood type diet recommendations.

As part of the analysis of all available scientific works (about one and a half thousand studies) on the relationship between blood type and health, only 16 studies partially confirmed that following a blood type diet can have any effect on the body. The remaining hundreds of studies have found no connection between health, nutrition and blood type.

It is also important that at the moment there is not a single scientific study proving the direct effect of following a blood type diet with real weight loss or improved health. It’s interesting, but even the author himself speaks very carefully about the effect of his proposed diet on losing weight and burning fat, mentioning modest figures of 3-4 kg.

Thus, modern research suggests that despite the presence of a certain logic in the theoretical basis of the blood group diet, it is impossible to give an unambiguous and universal recommendation for eating food solely based on a single metabolic characteristic.

In fact, such a recommendation simply will not take into account the enzymatic and endocrine activity of a particular person.

The author of the diet, Peter D'Adamo, claims that his theory is based on centuries-old observations of the Japanese linking temperament and a certain blood type.

There are no references to sources of information or any specific studies in his books, just as nothing is said about the basis on which the author divides specific products into useful and harmful.

It should also be noted that Peter D'Adamo is not a practicing doctor and does not hold any scientific degrees. In simple words, the theory of the connection between diet and blood type is solely his personal opinion, based on his own comparison of facts, but not on any scientific data.

So, even if you follow one of these diets and your health improves, it doesn't necessarily mean it has anything to do with your blood type.

Maybe the reason for the health benefits is simply that you're eating healthier foods than before. After all, all 4 diet types are based on real, healthy food and are a huge step up from the standard Western diet of processed junk food.

Diet for blood type 4 - “enigma”

Features of the body of “new people”:

  • strong immunity;
  • quick adaptation to changes in diet;
  • unstable nervous system;
  • predisposition to cardiovascular diseases.

Strengths

The advantages of the diet include:

  • adaptability to modern conditions;
  • normalization of metabolism;
  • improvement of thyroid secretion.

Weak sides

This diet may not coincide with medical nutrition for health reasons. Favorites are rarely included in the list of permitted products.

Health problems

Carriers of group 4 suffer from gallstone diseases. Also, “new people” are prone to cancer. They are often diagnosed with gastrointestinal pathologies.

Table of foods for the fourth group diet

“New people” should not eat corn in any form, but they can eat a lot of vegetables and fruits, if you take neutral ones into account.

Pros and cons of nutrition based on blood type

Dietary principles of nutrition according to blood groups are suitable for all people who strive to lead a healthy lifestyle and have no contraindications for health reasons. The regimen is designed for a long period (2-6 months) and has a lasting effect. The diet is balanced, it contains all nutrients in optimal proportions.

Main advantages

:

  • balance;
  • softness;
  • a large selection of healthy products, many neutral ones;
  • Infrequent consumption of prohibited foods is acceptable.

Disadvantages of the weight loss system by blood type

:

  • there is no guarantee of excess weight loss;
  • you need to take into account the state of the digestive system, control cholesterol levels;
  • it is necessary to change taste preferences;
  • high risk of failure due to prolonged dietary restriction;
  • The nutritional system is based on a hypothesis and has no scientific basis.

A significant disadvantage of the diet is a large list of contraindications

:

  • chronic stomach diseases;
  • pregnancy and breastfeeding;
  • pathology of the heart or blood vessels;
  • blood diseases, diabetes, weak immunity;
  • exacerbation of infectious or viral diseases.

Numerous studies in the field of nutrition prove that the Rh factor has no effect on the digestibility of food. This means that the choice of products, menu and nutritional recommendations will be the same for the first positive and first negative blood groups.

In the book “Nutrition by Blood Type,” Peter D'Adamo writes that neither the Rh factor, nor gender, nor age matter when compiling a diet. However, his next bestseller, entitled “4 Blood Types - 4 Paths to Health,” contains separate diet menus for 3 positive and 3 negative blood types. But they differ slightly.

Products by groups

There are more than ten types of products that are divided into three categories - recommended, prohibited and neutral for various blood groups. It is also important to introduce certain biologically active food additives. They are necessary to compensate for a possible deficiency of nutrients. And it can occur when you refuse certain foods.

  1. Recommended. Products that fully suit your body according to your blood type.
  2. Prohibited. They provoke weight gain and make you feel worse.
  3. Neutral. Such food can be included in the diet, but not often, especially during the active stage of weight correction.

The benefit is that by eating exclusively foods allowed by the diet, you can generally improve your health. After all, heavy meals will disappear from the diet of someone losing weight. And such food turns not only into fat, but also into toxins. Interestingly, Rhesus does not matter. Therefore, the menu for people, for example, with the first positive group is the same as for those with the first negative group.

Nutrition according to blood group I (type O)

Type O (blood type 1) is called “hunter”.

In the process of evolutionary development of mankind, they appeared first. The leading activity was hunting; meat predominated in the diet. Physiological characteristics of the body

with blood group I:

  • more powerful immunity;
  • significant activity of the digestive system;
  • low metabolic rate.

“Hunters” tolerate experiments with nutrition extremely poorly. Losing weight by blood type will be successful if you increase the percentage of protein foods and minimize the consumption of carbohydrate foods. Daily calorie content is 1500–1800 kcal. With blood type I, maximum efforts are often required to “accelerate” metabolism.

“Hunters” with the first blood group are classified as athletic mesomorphs and are endowed with increased stress resistance and strong immunity.

Diet menu for the day

People with blood group 1 should have five meals a day.

The menu is based on protein products.

An approximate daily diet might look like this:

Breakfast

: stewed beef liver, buckwheat porridge, green tea.

Snack

: Zucchini fritters.

Dinner

: borscht, veal steak, vegetables (preferably grilled).

Afternoon snack

: chamomile tea, pumpkin seeds, plums.

Dinner

: watercress, steamed fish cutlets.

Sample menu for every day

In the book “Nutrition by Blood Type,” James gives an approximate diet for each blood type “for every day,” but it is not strict.

The scientist repeatedly draws attention to the fact that it is necessary to “listen” to your body and eat the foods that it wants right now.

In total, an approximate menu for the day for owners of the first blood group is as follows:

  1. For breakfast – buckwheat porridge with fish.
  2. For lunch - beef steak or steak.
  3. Afternoon snack – walnuts or a dessert based on them (you can even have a cupcake, but do not overuse “heavy” sweets).
  4. Dinner – boiled fish fillet (mackerel is best).

Optimal daily menu for blood group 2:

  1. Breakfast – buckwheat porridge with low-fat kefir.
  2. Lunch – baked carp with vegetables.
  3. Afternoon snack – walnuts or apples.
  4. Dinner – tuna fillet or baked fish (no spices, add only salt to taste).

Menu for the day with the third blood group:

  1. For breakfast – 2 chicken eggs (or 6 quail eggs – your choice).
  2. Lunch – stewed meat with rice (lamb is best).
  3. Afternoon snack – almonds or apples, maybe dried fruits.
  4. Grilled vegetables or baked chicken with vegetables.

Optimal daily menu for blood group IV:

  1. For breakfast - cottage cheese with prunes and powdered sugar.
  2. Lunch – vegetable soup or turnip salad (those in the fourth group desperately need liquid food).
  3. Afternoon snack – pine nuts.
  4. Dinner – rabbit meat in tomato sauce.

Again, this is just a “sample” diet. Ideally, it should be compiled by a qualified nutritionist, taking into account the individual physiological characteristics of the patient’s body.

Nutrition according to blood group II (type A)

Type A (second blood group) is called agrarian or “farmer”. They are described as somewhat hysterical people who are able to get rid of excessive stress solely through the transition to vegetarianism and a complete refusal of meat.

Nutrition for blood group 2 is divided into two types: for 2 negative and 2 positive. Each of them has its own rules and nuances of application.

The second negative blood group has its own characteristics. Its owners are characterized by the presence

:

  • high production of the hormone cortisol during anxiety;
  • thick blood that provokes the formation of blood clots;
  • fat deposits.

This situation arose when grain became the main food instead of meat. The body had to rebuild, change the digestive system. At the same time, the absorption of animal proteins - dairy products, meat - has worsened.

The menu for every day should include

the following components:

  • fresh, thoroughly washed vegetables;
  • porridge (but not with milk!);
  • legumes;
  • freshly squeezed vegetable and fruit juices (preference is given to juice from celery, apples and carrots);
  • Dinner can be varied with a glass of quality red wine.

  • any soy dishes;
  • as a dessert, it is allowed to add jam and homemade marmalade to the diet;
  • a large amount of fresh fruits and vegetables;
  • any products containing large amounts of vitamin A.

With a positive blood group of 2, any sour, spicy, salty, smoked and fried foods are strictly unacceptable! Consume sweets in minimal quantities.

Diet for blood type 1 - “hunters”

People with group 1 have the following characteristics:

  • efficient, hardy;
  • adapt slowly to diets;
  • have a tendency to develop autoimmune diseases and allergic reactions;
  • may suffer from bleeding disorders;
  • they often experience inflammatory processes;
  • often suffer from gastritis and ulcers.

Advantages and disadvantages

The diet has the following benefits:

  • normalizes metabolism;
  • improves nutrient absorption;
  • heals the body;
  • satisfies hunger for a long time;
  • improves the condition of nails and hair;
  • provides a varied diet;
  • promotes the loss of fat mass rather than muscle mass;
  • increases stress resistance;
  • stimulates a large release of energy and increases performance.

This system has the following disadvantages:

  • increases cholesterol;
  • may cause constipation or a gout attack;
  • requires periodic consultations with a doctor due to the risk of exacerbation of chronic diseases.

Menu for blood group 3

You can often hear questions about how the list of products differs for people with a third negative blood group. In fact, there are no special differences here.

All the same products are allowed, but the same products are prohibited. But here it is worth paying more attention to nutrition. Rh negative makes the body more sensitive to nutrition. It is necessary to completely eliminate prohibited foods from the diet, and also be very careful about those allowed for limited consumption.

Nutrition according to blood group IV (type AB)

Type AB (blood group four) is mixed - that is, it has the characteristics of several other groups.

Described as a mixture of types A and B. Foods to be eaten include seafood, tofu, dairy products, beans and grains. They should avoid beans, corn, beef and chicken.

The list of foods that can be consumed will allow you to find the best option for each person.

Recommended foods for positive blood group 4

Food group Products
Meat Turkey, rabbit, lamb in small portions
Seafood Cod, sea bass, hake, mackerel, pike, sardine, tuna
Dairy products Include low-fat sour cream, cottage cheese, yogurt, kefir in your diet, but avoid pure cow's milk. You can drink goat
Oils, fats Olive, ghee

Seasonings Curry, garlic, horseradish, miso, parsley. Avoid pickles and ketchup that contain vinegar.
Beverages Alternate coffee and green tea for better stomach acid balance. A glass of red wine protects against heart disease

People whose blood belongs to group 4 should eat less and more often. This way they will counteract digestive problems caused by insufficient stomach acid and peptic enzymes.

Dr. D'Adamo suggests that type ABs pay attention to the combination of foods in their diet. For example, you will digest and absorb food more efficiently if you avoid starches and proteins in the same meal.

AB type women should avoid foods that thicken the blood. A study by Danish scientists found that group 4 is the most vulnerable to developing venous thromboembolism (blood clots in the veins), accounting for 20% of the risk. Experts studied data on 66,001 people who were observed for 33 years from 1977 to 2010 and came to the conclusion that blood type AB should be included in genetic screening for thrombophilia.

The missing nutrients can be obtained from neutral products - those that complement and diversify the menu.

Menu for 4 blood groups

This diet combines the basics of vegetarianism, so meat must be limited. It is better to give preference to lean varieties of meat and poultry.

The diet should be light and balanced, but the main thing is that the body must receive a large amount of vitamins and microelements.

When preparing dishes, the emphasis should be placed not on their taste, but more on their usefulness.

Food should be beneficial, so the way it is prepared is also important. It is better to boil, bake, stew, and steam permitted food products in order to preserve their healing properties as much as possible.

Other recommendations are:

:

  1. Reduce the volume of daily portions, while being sure to control the flow of fluid into the body (water).
  2. The amount of fat in the daily diet should be minimized, while plant fiber and natural antioxidants along with vitamins should prevail in excess.
  3. Alcohol, coffee, and carbonated drinks are considered forbidden; it is recommended to quench thirst with herbal infusions or green tea.
  4. Limit salt, sugar is prohibited, it is also advisable to exclude butter, and the best option is olive oil.

You need to eat up to 5 times a day. In the morning, breakfast can be hearty and “energetic”, lunch can be healthy and nutritious, and dinner (not late in the evening) can be light, with a feeling of malnutrition in the stomach. For an afternoon snack - vegetables, fruits.

Individual tables and menu examples for each group

The menu for each week of the diet is compiled by the person losing weight, focusing on the lists of “bad” and “good” foods.

When planning your menu for the week, keep in mind that the diet does not limit the daily amount of calories. There is also no need to strictly regulate portion sizes, but it is important not to overeat. The number of meals is not important either. There are no additional conditions. Below is a detailed description of the dietary features for each blood group.

1 group (0) - Hunter, meat eater

More than 33% of the world's population belongs to this group. “Hunters” have a strong digestive system and immune system. The diet provides an abundance of meat and fish foods for the first blood group.

People in the first group often gain weight due to their slowed metabolism. To speed it up, the diet for blood type 1 excludes wheat, corn, cabbage and oats from the menu. It is also recommended to avoid aspirin and vitamin complexes containing retinol and tocopherol.

Group 2 (A) - Farmer, vegan

This type was transformed from a “meat eater” when, in addition to hunting, the practice of farming appeared. Almost 38% of people are carriers of the second blood group. The diet for blood type 2 is based on the consumption of plant foods.

People with the second blood group have peculiarities in the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract. In particular, low acidity. This makes it difficult for the body to digest meat products, spicy foods, and salty foods. In this case, cutlets, herring and pickled vegetables inhibit metabolic processes, which causes the accumulation of unnecessary fat reserves. You should also avoid foods and supplements rich in retinol.

Group 3 (B) - Omnivorous nomad

Carriers of this type make up almost 21% of the world's population. The third blood group was formed in the process of interracial mixing. If such people eat properly, then special health problems can be avoided, because they do not have congenital “Achilles heels”.

The advantage is that their body reacts flexibly to changes in diet. And the diet for blood group 3 is the most diverse. However, excessive excesses towards veganism or meat-eating can cause harm.

With the third blood group, a balance must be maintained between physical and moral exercise. For example, you can do swimming and yoga.

Group 4 (AB) - Discreet gourmet

The youngest and rarest blood group. Its carriers are no more than 8% of the planet's inhabitants. This is the result of a symbiosis of the second and third types.

The diet for blood group 4 provides a combined, moderate diet.

The symbiosis of the main characteristics of A- and B-types is a source of additional problems in the fight against excess weight. Thus, low acidity of gastric juice can be combined, as in type A. And the need for meat, as in type B. That is, the product is needed, but there are not enough resources to digest it. As a result, a fat layer accumulates.

The food set of the diet for the fourth blood group leaves room for experimentation. For example, we don’t give up meat, but we reduce the amount of it. It appears on the table only in the company of vegetables. And we compensate for the protein deficiency by introducing soy into the menu.

Is it possible to lose weight on a blood type diet?

In the world, about 40% of the population have type 1 blood. They need nutritional supplements with iodine, manganese, calcium, vitamins K and B.

If, in order to achieve a positive result - weight loss - a diet according to the first blood group is chosen, a number of actions are required

:

  • Include more seafood and seaweed (seaweed). They replenish iodine deficiency. This microelement is part of the thyroid hormones, and it has a direct effect on metabolism. Radish and radish activate the production of thyroid hormones.
  • Give preference to green vegetables. Cucumbers, spinach, broccoli, green onions strengthen the body.
  • Eliminate heavy foods from your diet that overload the digestive system (fried foods, smoked foods, processed foods, canned food, alcohol).
  • It is preferable to boil, stew, steam, or grill foods.
  • Practice dosed physical activity with high intensity (aerobics, swimming, skiing).
  • Proteins are the basis of the hunters’ diet. Products that speed up metabolism will help them lose weight. This is, for example, red meat and liver. Pork and goose are poorly digestible.

On Earth, almost 39% of people have blood type 2.

Thanks to the correct selection of products, toxins will be removed from the body, and the functioning of the intestines and stomach will be normalized. To get significant results, it is recommended

:

  • exercise moderately - walking, swimming, yoga;
  • eliminate emotional stress;
  • avoid overwork;
  • give up sweets and baked goods;
  • take chromium and selenium, vitamin E, B.

15% of the world's population have type 3 blood. During a diet, these people have the richest diet, but they are more likely to be overweight than others. They need to take additional magnesium and lecithin. Sports such as running and walking, swimming, exercise bike, tennis are suitable for them; yoga classes are also useful.

Representatives of the mixed group are only 6%. This type of person needs intense physical activity - running, cycling, swimming. Recommended food supplements include zinc, selenium, and B vitamins.

For people with the fourth blood group, in order to get rid of excess weight, it is recommended to reduce daily fat intake, and focus mainly on proteins and dietary fiber.

Bread made from wheat flour and sweets, as in all other diets, are considered prohibited foods and will not help a patient with positive blood type 4 lose weight.

The blood type diet can be followed throughout your life as it provides a balanced diet. But if the dietary regime is followed temporarily, you need to switch to a regular food system smoothly. You should maintain your diet menu for at least a week, adding only a small amount of prohibited foods to it.

Despite the safe list of products, the technique is only suitable for healthy people who do not need medical nutrition. If you have gastrointestinal diseases or other health problems, the diet can make you feel worse. To prevent this from happening, consult a specialist before using it.

Remember that nutrition based on blood type does not have an evidence-based scientific basis, confirmed by clinical studies.

Contraindications

There are practically no prohibitions on following this diet. This kind of nutrition is a subtype of the usual healthy diet, only a little more adapted for certain categories of people. The only prohibition may be individual intolerance to a particular product. But you can always replace it with something else - fortunately, the list of products allows it. In any strict diets, the list of substitutes (interchangeable products) is often much shorter or absent altogether.

Some diseases can significantly change the diet. For example, if a person has blood group 1, but has a history of some kind of disease of the cardiovascular system, then saturating the diet with meat products (as it should be for the first group) is impossible. There is also the opposite example: the presence of diseases such as anemia or protein deficiency presupposes the consumption of meat in sufficient quantities.

Another situation is age. The older a person gets, the more health problems he or she has. This means that some products must again be transferred from the “bad” category to the “good” category. For example: diagnosis – osteoporosis. The doctor prescribed the mandatory presence of calcium in the diet every day. But with a diet according to the first blood group, the consumption of dairy products is not indicated.

If you have any severe or indolent illnesses, you should definitely consult your doctor before putting any new diet into practice. First of all, consultation with a doctor is indicated for those who suffer from kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes mellitus or coronary artery disease. In addition to old age, the use of the diet by adolescents and children, as well as pregnant and lactating women, is risky.
